MURRAY’S BREWERY HOSTS PORT STEPHENS’ ‘GIN AND JAZZ’ FESTIVAL IN JULY
FREE live jazz and rockin blues concerts
NEW craft gin release
Meet our distiller
Gin cocktails . . . and more
Weekend of 13/14 July
Murray’s Brewery loves gin so much that the craft brewer has created its own festival to honour it! The distinctive aroma and flavour of arguably the world’s most versatile spirit, gin, and its musical soul mate, jazz, will be showcased for the second year at Murray’s “Gin & Jazz Festival” across the weekend of 13/14 July.
“Most people know us for our experimental beers, but we’ve recently begun experimenting with craft spirits too – and we’re loving it! So much so that we created a festival around one of our favourites, gin,” said brewery owner, Murray Howe.
“Partnering gin with jazz creates the perfect atmosphere for some chill out time with friends and family. After all, gin, which dates back to the Dutch in the 1600’s, is known for its calming effects. And even if gin is not your thing, there’s so much going on at Murray’s this July you’re still bound to have a great time anyway.”
FREE Jazz and Rockin Blues Concerts
Free live jazz and rockin blues concerts will feature across the weekend – Rehab Brass Band will be performing Saturday 13 July. The Rehab Brass Band's roots are based on the tradition of New Orleans street marching bands and second line rhythms and will get a crowd on their feet and dancing with some down and dirty brass injected funk!
Half Nelson will take you on a midnight ride through the back alleys of New Orleans and the smoky Jazz dives of 1920's Harlem, on Sunday 14 July.
From gritty Billie Holiday, to the smooth styling of Ella Fitzgerald. Add a shot of Louis Armstrong with a dash of Fats Waller and you have the energetic cocktail that is Half Nelson. Half Nelson deliver high energy, heartfelt jazz, that will keep you entertained all afternoon.
In addition to Murray’s flagship ‘Gentleman Smith’ East Coast Gin and our current Frisky Whisker Gin, Murray’s is releasing another gin especially for the festival.
Gin Sin is a unique take on our ‘Gentleman Smith’ East Coast gin featuring prominent notes of rosemary, basil and thyme alongside the primary botanicals - Juniper, coriander, & citrus. Fragrant and aromatic on the nose, with a soft smooth texture the flavours are well balanced, savoury and refreshing.
Meet Our Distiller and Brewery Tour
Learn all about brewing, and getting the most out of tasting craft gin! Our distiller will be available each day at the cellar door to talk about our craft spirits. Brewery tours run at 2.15pm each day of the weekend by Murray’s brewers. The tour costs $5 per person, and runs for 30 minutes. Bookings essential.
Murray’s will be serving up a range of non-traditional gin-based cocktails – as you probably haven’t experienced before.
And More . . .
Of course the usual line-up of Murray’s award winning craft beers will also be pouring. The kitchen will be serving up finger lickin American dude food and an array of healthy food options and kid’s meals too. And Murray’s Brewery Bus will run as usual on the weekends.
“So come join me and kick back as you sample brand new delights for the senses this July at Murray’s Gin & Jazz Festival!” said Murray Howe.

Norm Bakker has been singing for a number of years , however it's a dream come true to be able to perform a tribute to his idol the king of rock ‘n’ roll “Elvis Presley”.
Norm has slotted into the part of Elvis with ease and this was due to the fact that norm’s personality caters only for the best effort and nothing less, of course there are many impersonators, and Norm insists that his show either as a full production or as a solo guest appearance is more a tribute to Elvis and not an imitation, and was determined to do an interpretation that Elvis fans would enjoy.
Make no mistake, Norm has the finesse and expertise to entertain any audience whether they are ardent fans, but most are convinced after his performance.
In the popular music world Brien wrote Australian charting song Loveland for 80's band The Raiding Party. His 90's group Circuslife received high acclaim from the music industry but collapsed before a record was completed. Brien has worked with international artists such as Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes, Suzie Quatro, Fastball, Mike Peters, and Slim Jim Phantom (The Stray Cats) to name a few.
His last Australian band, The Retro Rockets headlined every major Rock n Roll and Rockabilly festival in Australia and New Zealand, recorded 5 studio albums and 1 live album. Brien wrote all the songs for this band and was the lead vocalist/guitarist.
