1942 is a dark lager brewed as a collaboration between Murray's Craft Brewing Co and Hunter Beer Co as a one off special release for Newcastle Craft Beer Week 2012.

It uses German malts and is medium bodied, malty sweet with a roasty finish. Light NZ hop aroma without strong bitterness, reflecting Newcastle's dark beer loving traditions. The name 1942 refers to the year the Japanese submarine shelled the inner city of Newcastle and the big guns at Fort Scratchley fired for their first and only time in anger in defence of the city.
